Questions about installation?

We've Got Answers

Do Architectural Wall Panels need to be installed by a certified installer?

Nichiha products can be installed by any professional tradesperson and ever DIYers as long as the installation guidelines are followed explicitly. If you find yourself needing help with installation, you can contact one of our local sales reps who can advise you on the best path forward for your project.

Are the panels pre-cut or do they need to be cut on-site?

To achieve quick lead times, broad product availability and easy ordering, Nichiha is made in standard sizes that are cut to size on-site by the installer. The basic tools needed are:
  • Saw(s) with dust collection and fiber cement carbide-tipped blades
  • An impact driver for the fasteners, snips or metal blades for metal components

Please use the precaution needed with respect to silica dust whenever cutting or drilling the products.

Can the panels be installed both horizontally and vertically?

All Nichiha products can be installed horizontally and many can be installed vertically, on angled or curved walls and as soffit. If you are installing in any way other than horizontally, please check with a Nichiha representative before placing your order.

How do the panels terminate windows and doors?

You should use j-mold as you get closer to the window and door. Fasten the j-mold to the bottom of the window first, then install j-molds on each side. Finally, install a drip edge along the top. This will result in a continuous reveal as the molding goes around the window. Once your molding and drip edge are installed, you can cut and slide the panels into the j-mold as they are installed.

What type of weather barrier is needed?

A weather-resistive barrier (WRB) is required when installing Nichiha panels over stud walls and SIPs. Please refer to each product's technical documentation for details and specification.
