Yadegari Case Study

Welcome to West Vancouver, British Columbia. With uninterrupted ocean and
Vancouver area views, West Vancouver is home to some of the most soughtafter
and expensive real estate in the region, as pristine, clear blue water, and
city views are common sights to the residents of this exclusive area. Custom
home builder and architect, Farzin Yadegari, began construction on another
luxury home, his very own home, where he had a plethora of materials to
consider when choosing siding, following the modern home movement progressing
throughout Canada.

In West Vancouver, homes typically range in the millions. The issue Yadegari faced
was to find a siding that conveyed “luxury,” find a product that could also withstand
the harsh weather conditions and moisture, and lastly, find a product that
would harmonize with the upscale appearance of the community. The Yadegari
residence is over 5,000 square feet, a transitional style single family home and
coach house.

Learning about the Nichiha product from a local distributor representative, Yadegari
decided to try it on his own home before specifying it for other projects, to
learn more specifically about the ins and outs of the product. He was first drawn
to the clean appearance of the Architectural Block Panels, yet quickly came to the
realization that this product just might fit all his requirements with many added
benefits. The durability of the panels, ease of installation, built-in rain screen,
overlapping edges and large size of panels all made the selection process that
much easier.

The challenge with this project was to come up with something that was unique,
outside of the traditional lap siding and stucco. Nichiha’s Architectural Block
Panels provided a very high-end finished product, without the extreme costs.
Although traditionally used in commercial applications, Yadegari was able to
work the panels into a residential application, providing a unique look while also
meeting local building code requirements.

The ultimate look and feel Yadegari was looking to achieve
was created with a combination of dark grey granite strips
and grey Architectural Block Series panels, along with the
contemporary style and use of the deep orange stained
Douglas Fir posts, beams and brackets.

“Typically fiber cement siding is seen as a mid-range siding
product,”states Alison Raes, sales and marketing representative
for Nichiha in the Canadian market. “We’ve seen the
acceptance and usage level of Nichiha’s panels in the custom
home market skyrocket, especially after builders and homeowners
have the opportunity to see this typical commercially
used product, used in a residential space.”

Seeing how Nichiha’s Architectural Block Panels provided a
solution for his home, Yadegari has continued to utilize
Nichiha’s panels in several other projects in the Vancouver
area. “We’re now using Nichiha’s Architectural Block Panels
for several exteriors in the community. We discovered during
installation of the panels on my home that the installation
process and expense was much more feasible, compared to
stucco, which over half of the homes in the area are outfitted
with. The clean look, ease of installation, and reducing the
number of connections and penetrations into the exterior
walls due to the large length of the panels, all provide excellent
design qualities.”

Raes adds, “This project and many others just like it clearly
demonstrates the difference and the changing perception
within the custom builder market of using fiber cement
panels on high-end million dollar plus properties. Nichiha’s
panels are quickly becoming the product of choice for custom
builders and architects wanting a long lasting, lowmaintenance
product that also has a luxurious appearance, in
addition to year-round installation.”
